Pippin Star Tovah Feldshuh to Lead 10th Anniversary Production of Golda’s Balcony in Fort Lauderdale

first_imgTovah Feldshuh is trading in the Pippin trapeze for a Balcony from January 22 through 26, 2014! Feldshuh will channel Golda Meir in the 10th anniversary production of Golda’s Balcony at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale, FL, a role she originated—and got a Tony nod for—on Broadway in 2003. No additional casting has been announced. Golda’s Balcony is a portrait of the indomitable Meir, a Milwaukee schoolteacher who became Prime Minister of Israel in 1969. From the pogroms of Russia to the halls of the Knesset, the play encapsulates the dramatic story of Israel in the 20th century. Can’t get enough Tovah? Her additional Broadway credits include Irena’s Vow, Rodgers & Hart, Dreyfus in Rehearsal and Cyrano. Her film and TV appearances include Kissing Jessica Stein, As the World Turns, Lady in the Water, A Walk on the Moon, Covert Affairs and Beautiful People.center_img “Not only did Golda’s Balcony become the longest running one-woman play in the history of Broadway,” Feldshuh recently told Broadway.com of the 2003 production, “But it brought to me the company of heads of state, and put me in the position where my voice, crying for peace, might be heard. I still do short runs of Golda’s Balcony wherever I can, and it is one of the deepest satisfactions of my artistic life, despite the two hours it requires to put on the nose, the hair, the fat suit, the fat legs, and—my favorite pastime—sculpting the varicose veins beneath my support hose. What I loved about Golda is that she never gave up on her primogenitor: the State of Israel. This, to her, was her firstborn child, and a life that she had to secure for the future, despite all odds. As Golda would say, ‘Some people love you, and some people love you and show up.’ Golda showed up.” View Commentslast_img read more
