Donegal Junior Chamber chosen to host top awards

first_imgThe Donegal branch of Junior Chamber International (JCI) has won the bid to host this year’s national Ten Outstanding Young Person awards (TOYP).The glittering ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 13, at Harvey’s Point Hotel. JCI Donegal’s project manager, Emma Boylan, successfully pitched for the event at JCI Ireland’s national meeting in January.“This prestigious event is a great opportunity for Donegal people, and for local businesses, to network with young people who are extremely successful in both their personal lives and in business,” Ms Boylan said. “We will also being using the national awards to promote Donegal as a tourist destination, as a place to do business and to showcase local food and products. Delegates will experience a full day of training as well as a trip to Sliabh Liag.”She also stressed that members of the public can purchase tickets through eventbrite, and the awards are open to everyone who wants to experience it.Sponsored by AIB, TOYP is a drive to identify young people for their dynamism and enthusiasm in their fields. Last month saw the local awards ceremony in which winners, including Ireland star Seamus Coleman, received a commemorative trophy.After the local awards, a number of the Donegal winners have been given the opportunity go on to be recognised nationally, and possibly internationally, for their achievements. Every year, JCI selects ten outstanding young people under 40 to be recognised for living its mission in extraordinary ways. JCI Donegal is part of an international organisation aimed at attracting members aged 18-40, focusing on leadership, entrepreneurship and active citizenship. Two years ago, it landed another major coup by winning the right to host the 2015 National Convention.“We are not just about business, people join JCI to meet, learn and grow,” Ms Boylan added.“At JCI Donegal, our members come from all walks of life.
