Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Bench warrants issued for TCI insurance defaulters Bahamas Police denies suspect hide out in TCI Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, 04 May 2015 – The National Insurance Board tells the public that over the 23 years it has been in existence, there has been over $77 million dollars in payments to beneficiaries. This as the company recently announced a staggered approach to raising the wage ceiling over a three year period and giving increases in some of its plans. Deputy Director of Operations Walter Gardiner has been hard at work lately on the PR front for NIB, explaining in a media release issued recently that: ““The NIS legislation today is undoubtedly the best piece of social protection legislation ever implemented in the TCI. Introduced under an extremely dark cloud of suspicion, mistrust and opposition from employers, employees and self-employed alike, convincing the general public to ‘buy – in’ and comply was quite a challenge at that time as this was the very first time that monies were mandatorily deducted from salaries.” Gardiner admits that largely, the public saw NIB as a mere tax, that some businesses even threatened to cut staff and others had forecast failure… but the near quarter of a century of existence for the organization and the elephant sized payouts over this time, he says, proves it was a good move for the Turks and Caicos. Over 1,400 people are a part of the long term payouts, in the pensioners category – they get around $9 million of the monies distributed per year. Overall NIB is reported to pay out $12 million annually, with some $200 million in reserves and collections from the workers in the country announced at $25 million dollars per annum. Gardiner added: I believe that we have proven our worth to the people of the TCI … Today, thousands of people depend on us, but more importantly, thousands of people can depend on us”. Dupri clearly has an eye for talent and how to best showcase it. While most people have likely heard some version of the story that he discovered young teens Kris Kross at the mall and turned them into rap stars with their hit debut single “Jump,” the details of how all of it happened and what it took to get there are often left out.In conversation with the museum’s Artistic Director Scott Goldman, Dupri shares how much more in-depth the story really is, and that the young boys weren’t trying to be rappers when they first met, so he really had to get to know them to shape them into the stars he knew they were. This personalized process became how he worked with all future So So Def artists, and played a huge part in the label’s – and each artist’s – success. Kris Kross was So So Def’s first artist and first success story, and they paved the way for Dupri’s continued excellence.”You gotta understand people out there, Kris Kross weren’t rappers. They weren’t kids walking around with demos. They weren’t trying to be rappers. They weren’t trying to be singers. When I met them I said, ‘What do y’all do?'” Dupri explains. “‘We just cool.’ I was like, ‘Damn. Get these guys a record fast.'”The conversation with Jermaine Dupri and Friends kicked off of the opening of the GRAMMY Museum’s newest exhibit, Jermaine Dupri & So So Def: 25 Years of Elevating Culture, which will be on view until Jan. 2019.Jermaine Dupri On The Most Game-Changing Song He’s Worked On & More News Facebook Jermaine Dupri On The Real Story Behind Turning Kris Kross Into Stars Twitter NETWORK ERRORCannot Contact ServerRELOAD YOUR SCREEN OR TRY SELECTING A DIFFERENT VIDEO Sep 26, 2018 – 5:26 pm Jermaine Dupri on Turning Kris Kross Into Stars Jermaine Dupri on Turning Kris Kross Into Stars jermaine-dupri-real-story-behind-turning-kris-kross-stars In an exclusive conversation at the GRAMMY Museum, the So So Def founder shares the two-year journey from meeting the teens “with swag” at the mall to developing them into breakout rap stars Ana YglesiasGRAMMYs Sep 26, 2018 – 5:27 pm Jermaine Dupri, along with a stellar crew of friends and label-mates, visited the GRAMMY Museum on Sept. 20 for an exclusive conversation looking back on and celebrating the impact of 25 years of his record label, So So Def Recordings. It’s all possible, according to Samsung. The company showed off 12-by-12-inch display modules at the event that could be easily snapped together to build out bigger displays. It also showed how these same displays could work together with speaker elements, effectively creating new kinds of home entertainment devices on the fly.All of this is powered by Samsung’s MicroLED technology, which promises wide viewing angles, strong colors and energy efficiency. “MicroLED will soon become a fixture of your everyday life,” said Samsung Electronics America vice president Andrew Sivori. “MicroLED will give you the power to create whatever you want, and to place it wherever you want it.”However, company executives kept mum on the commercial availability of these kinds of modular TVs. A Samsung spokesperson told Variety that the company was still “evaluating the market” and didn’t want to commit to shipping any of the MicroLED-based modular TVs this year. Another rep said that the company may also ultimately decide to ship modules that aren’t 12-by-12 inches. The company also announced during the event that Samsung TVs will be controllable with Amazon Echo and Google Home smart speakers later this year. And earlier Sunday, Samsung revealed that it was going to bring an app for Apple’s iTunes Movies and TV Shows service to its 2018 and 2019 TVs. Samsung doesn’t exactly know how the TV of the future will look like — but the South Korean consumer electronics giant wants to be prepared for every possibility. That’s why Samsung is doubling down on modular MicroLED displays that can be freely combined to all kinds of shapes, and screens of up to 219 inches in diameter. The company first introduced these modular display units at the CES 2018, at the time branding them as “The Wall” to emphasize the ability to assemble previously-unknown screen sizes.Fast forward one year, and “The Wall” is back, complete with a new sibling: Samsung showed off a new configuration dubbed “The Window” at a press event in Las Vegas Sunday night, where company representatives also emphasized that the modular displays at the heart of both “The Wall” and “The Window” could be assembled to any size, shape, resolution and aspect ratio. China has earned a reputation as the hacker capital of the world, but a new report shows the bulk of global cyber-attack activity has recently come from its smaller neighbor Indonesia.Thirty-eight percent of cyber attacks originated in Indonesia during the second quarter of 2013, up from 21 percent in the first quarter, according to a report by security cloud platform Akamai. This spike helped push China off the hacking pedestal, with the world’s most populous country accounting for 33 percent of attacks, down from 34 percent in the previous quarter. The U.S. rounded out the top three, generating 6.9 percent of cyber-attack traffic, a decrease from 8.3 percent.Indonesia and China alone accounted for more than half of all cyber-attack activity during the quarter.Related: Don’t Get Hacked — Tools to Fight Cyber AttacksWhile it may seem like Indonesia came out of nowhere to take the lead (last year the country accounted for on average less than one percent of cyber crimes), hackers may be taking advantage of its increase in connection and weakening IT structure. The country’s average internet connection speed increased 125 percent in the second quarter from the same time last year. That, coupled with the fact the country isn’t spending a whole lot of cash on its infrastructure, may make the country a haven for cybercriminals.Related: Cyber Security a Growing Issue for Small Business In January, hacker group Anonymous Indonesia claimed responsibility for defacing 12 government websites with the tagline “No Army Can Stop an Idea” shown on the sites. In April, the country’s defense minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro announced they were building a Cyber Defense Center to take on hackers. Microsoft also felt the supposed wrath of Indonesia criminals (among others) when it put the kibosh on a cybercrime operation in June. Akamai’s findings are based on agents reporting log connection attempts, which the company defines as attack traffic. The company then can determine the top countries the hack attacks occur. One caveat to keep in mind: the IP address assigned to a particular country may not be the nation the attacker resides. So someone from China with an IP address associated with them, may be committing cyber attacks in France. To check out more of Akamai’s findings, check out the below highlights:Click to Enlarge+
